I have several memories of Chase, here are a couple that I felt like sharing right now. The first one I guess I wasn't even there for. The first family reunion that was held after I left on my mission was at Henry's Lake. Someone (I am sure it was Lori) decided to put a tape recorder in a room and have everyone go in and leave a little message for me. When it came Doug and Gwenette's turn they were there with Chase who would have been about 5 I guess, recording a message for me. Gwenette says to Chase "Say hi to Uncle Shawn", and so I can hear Chase say "Hi to Uncle Shawn". The frustration was evident from his parents and Gwenette said "Doug, this isn't working" and they were soon finished with my message. But it shows that even at a young age he had a sense of humor.
My next memory was in June of 1997. I had gone to Montana for a trip and Chase came home with me so he could spend some time with Riley. On our way back we stopped and camped several miles up from the Ruby Reservoir at Cottonwood campground, the site of a couple of our family reunions. We rode my motorcycle around all afternoon, shot a bunch of gophers and watched a couple of beavers swim in the river. We saw a couple of elk and even at 10 years old he explained to me the behavior patterns and dynamics of an elk herd. I was amazed at his knowlegde. We later came across a deer that had become tangled up in a fence and died. I snapped this picture of Chase by the deer. (sorry Heidi, we didn't kill it though, this is how we found it)
I think about Chase every day, and I know most of you do too. I heard this song as I was doing laundry one day and thought of Chase and his friends. I wanted to share with everyone -Mandy
